This is Laika (also was known as Kudryavka *Little Curly in Russian*) a small mixed-breed dog who was sent to space by the Russians on Sputnik 2, on November 3, 1957. Laika is an example of how cruel man can be towards animals, in the name of science and technology, in the name of propaganda, of politics and of saving face.
Laika was sent on this mission, without knowing that she will never return to Earth alive. This is because the rocket scientists did not have enough time to prepare the shuttle for an eventuality like what happened to Sputnik 2.
Provisions had not been made for a safe re-entry. And do you know why they did not have sufficient time? That's because of the politicians.
In their power play, a dog had to die a painful and unnecessary death.
